For Winnie, getting her hands dirty in a mess of materials has always been a joy. Everything from paint, clay, leaves, vegetables and cereal boxes are all used in her creative process.
She is inspired by teachers like University of Waterloo professor, Tony Urqhart, who helped her embrace mistakes as ‘opportunities to be more creative’. Alex Janvier’s work inspires the movement and flow found in her art and Mickalene Thomas’ Femmes Noires, the desire to add bold colour to the future.
She continues to absorb inspiration from the daily moments living in Niagara as a wife, mother of two and Secondary School Visual Art Teacher…As well as the rebellious need to push back with texture at an increasingly flat, digital world.
