Medium: Oil Pastels

Art Walk station #13: Pastel Art

Charina is an impressionist oil pastel artist who works out of her home studio in Burlington, Ontario. Her artwork balances her life as an Oncology research nurse at a busy downtown Toronto hospital. Charina’s process is a self-taught mix of controlled and uncontrolled mark making with oil pastels applied with varying tools, often incorporating cold wax medium. Through layering and scratching away, Charina’s art recreates impressions of Canadian Landscapes using soft colors, calming values, and subtle strokes, until the skies and grasses stop moving.
